FAQs & Further Information
Do Mermaid Wedding Dresses Require A Certain Body Shape?
Due to the general nature and shape of mermaid wedding dresses, there are some particular body types that tend to suit and fit better. In the industry, there are two body types that are renowned for a perfectly fitted mermaid wedding dress, the ‘hourglass’ figure and the ‘muscular’ figure. These body types are most certainly broader than their names suggest, so don’t feel put off a mermaid style dress. Rest assured, our appointment phase will aid in identifying the perfect dress for you.
What’s The Difference Between Mermaid & Trumpet Dresses?
The main difference between mermaid wedding dresses and their trumpet sisters is the flared skirt. Mermaid dresses tend to begin flaring at or below the knee, offering a more dramatic silhouette and highlighting the bride’s torso with a long bodice.
How to Sit in a Mermaid Wedding Dress?
The fit of a mermaid wedding dress is extremely important. It needs to be designed so it’s tightly fitted around the hips in order to show off your unique silhouette but also have enough room for movement and sitting down.
Our mermaid wedding dresses are designed with your comfort as our number one priority, which is why we don’t make them as tight and can customise the fit specifically for you. Therefore, all of our mermaid wedding dresses should be completely breathable and easy to sit in.
Additionally, our experienced team of seamstresses will be happy to demonstrate how to sit in a mermaid wedding dress and feel completely at ease. We are also able to alter your dress throughout multiple fittings to ensure your big day goes as smoothly as possible.
Can You Add Tulle to a Mermaid Wedding Dress?
Absolutely. We offer a selection of tulle mermaid wedding dresses such as the Desire and Kendall dresses. We believe that our mermaid wedding dresses offer the most memorable juxtaposition for your special day with your highlighted body shape mixed with a flirty sheerness at the leg flowing into a romantic train.
Unfortunately we cannot add tulle to our other mermaid wedding dresses that do not already include the fabric as we no longer offer customisations that combine two dress styles or changes from a full skirt to a fitted skirt and vice versa.
What Do I Wear Under a Mermaid Wedding Dress?
The type of undergarments that your gown requires depends on two factors: the cut of your wedding dress and what makes you comfortable. Due to the fact that most of our mermaid wedding dresses are light in colour, we recommend that you find undergarments that are close to your natural skin tone.
If your chosen gown has a scoop back like our Aimee and Olivia mermaid wedding dresses, opt for a backless bra such as a strapless adhesive bra, pasties or tape strips. For our other mermaid wedding dresses without a scoop back, a strapless bra will do. However, if you’re seeking added support and definition, we recommend a strapless long-line bra.
The most important thing to note when it comes to mermaid wedding dresses is that they’re designed to accentuate your waist and hips, which is why bridal shapewear is more favourable. Bridal shapewear will give your body a smooth finish, which is ideal for a curve-hugging dress style.
Can A ‘Petite’ Bride Wear A Mermaid Wedding Dress?
The terms ‘petite’, ‘curvy’ and other examples are so broad and can be interpreted in many ways. During your visit to our showcase room, we can alter your selected dress and provide you with a better understanding of how it will look on your wedding day. Our team offer a tremendous experience for each of our brides to be, with a strong focus on ensuring they’re 100% sure on their wedding dress before purchasing.
